THERE was still no word or any leads yesterday on the whereabouts of abducted taxi driver, Vivekanand Nandalall, 20, of Lot 125 A Non-Pariel, Block 12, East Coast Demerara.

But police were continuing their investigations into and search for the missing taxi driver, probing new leads they hoped would result in the discovery of the young man.

Nandalall was allegedly seized on October 15 while on a pickup at Enterprise (not far from his home) driving his silver gray motorcar PGG 3648. That car was found abandoned at Annandale Railway Embankment; it was dusted for fingerprints where six sets of fingerprints were taken from the vehicle.

Although a $1M ransom was delivered to the kidnappers early Saturday morning, relatives say all contact via the telephone abruptly ceased.

Yesterday the police disclosed that they found duct tape with hair on it in the Bare Root area, which leads to the backlands. This confirmed that he was being held in an East Coast village between Buxton and Victoria, according to relatives.

The police Tuesday through a press release gave a detailed report on their investigations so far.

Yesterday relatives remained optimistic that Nandalal was alive and that they would soon be reunited with him - or at least receive a phone call from his abductors about his safe release.

"Everyday we nah move from next to the phone hoping that they would call and tell us something. We're praying that he would come back alive to us. This whole episode has caused the entire family much distress and we only want him back alive," said a close relative.

The newly activated Anti-Kidnapping Unit, backed up by the various crime units from Georgetown, were combing several areas on the East Coast up to late yesterday even as relatives once again appealed for Nandalall's safe release.
