The West Berbice Praant of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha held a pre-Diwali motorcade and cultural show on Saturday night last and organizers have reported that they were very pleased with the response to the events. They said the twin event helped set the Diwali mood in West Berbice.
A motorcade comprising of illuminated and coloufully decorated vehicles and young ladies dressed in Indian wear wended its way from Bush Lot Village to the community ground at Blairmont, a distance of about twelve miles, just after nightfall.
The ground was the venue of a well-attended cultural show at which all of the temples in West Coast of Berbice were represented.
Secretary of the Praant, Ms. Basmattie Raywat said there were fewer vehicles in the motorcade than last year but the attendance and participation at the cultural show was greater than expected and very gratifying.
The secretary expressed the gratitude of the praant to the Police, the GUYSUCO operations at Blairmont and all other persons who helped to make the event the success it turned out to be.
Diwali will be celebrated in Guyana tomorrow, a national holiday.
