THE People's Progressive Party yesterday indicated that based on its understanding, the main opposition People's National Congress Reform (PNC/R) is on a campaign abroad to try to frustrate Government's efforts in obtaining debt reduction and from acquiring resources to facilitate projects that would benefit the Guyanese people.
In meetings with the international Community in and out of Guyana, they have been suggesting that financial assistance to fight poverty be withheld, according to General Secretary of the PPP/C, Mr. Donald Ramotar.
Ramotar told a news conference at the Party's Freedom House Headquarters yesterday that "spurious and unfounded allegations" are being made in relation to the PPP/Civic Government's management.
"Clearly, the PNC sees its own partisan interests are being above the interest of the Guyanese people," he said, adding that "they are obviously working on the philosophy that the worst the better for them, thus this drive to deprive the country of resources by their activities".
The party also lashed out at the call by the PNC/R to abandon the database of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM). The PNC/R had indicated that GECOM is designed to further delay the holding of Local Government Elections in Guyana.
"The PNC/R has been doing all it can to frustrate democracy in Guyana and more particularly the question of local democracy," Ramotar contended.
