This has been made possible through the signing yesterday of Exchange of Notes for the establishment of a cooperation programme between GTV and China Central Television (CCTV) 9.
Minister of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation, Mr. Clement Rohee, noted that pursuant to a request by the Government of Guyana to the Government of the People's Republic of China for the establishment of a cooperation programme between the GTV and CCTV 9 under the Guyana/China Technical Cooperation Programme, the Government of China "responded favourably".
According to him, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation facilitated the signing of the Exchange of Notes between the two Governments for the establishment of the GTV/CCTV 9 Cooperative Programme. The Signing Ceremony took place in the Main Conference Room at Takuba Lodge, Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday. Minister Rohee signed on behalf of the Guyana Government while Chinese Ambassador, Mr. Song Tao signed on behalf of the Government of China.
Under this programme the Government of Guyana is to benefit from broadcasting of CCTV 9 programmes. Additionally, based on the long fruitful bilateral relations between the two countries, the Government of China will assist the Government of Guyana with the necessary technical requirements for the implementation of the project.
It was noted by both Minister Rohee and Ambassador Tao that Guyana and China have shared very fruitful and friendly bilateral relations over the past three decades in a number of areas in economic and technical cooperation. It was also noted that the signing of this exchange of notes would mark another initiative which would contribute significantly to strengthening and deepening Guyana's relations with China.
Among those present at the signing ceremony were Prime Minister Sam Hinds; General Manager of GTV, Mr. Mohamed Sattaur; and Producer/Director of GTV, Mr. Martin Goolsarran. (Mark Ramotar)
