Several Ministers have expressed their Christmas and New Year wishes to the Government Information Agency (GINA). Here are their wishes:

Prime Minister Samuel Hinds: "Let me take this opportunity to extend best wishes for Christmas to all my fellow Guyanese throughout the Regions, and those who have returned for a Guyanese Christmas and for 2004. Let me wish all of us greater prosperity; but most of all, let me wish that all of us would be working, improving our productivity, getting our work done better. Let us get on with the job of building this country which is ours."

Minister of Public Works, Anthony Xavier: ?hristmas is a time when people reflect on what the year has been. My wish for Christmas is that there, first of all, be peace on earth, goodwill to all men and that the hate and wars cease to exist and that we learn to live together like brothers and sisters; Sometimes we all get hung up on material things and at times it seems like if we forget what Christmas really means. It really should be a time of thanks that we should give out more. For my Ministry, we have had a good year. Most of the projects are on stream and running well for the New Year. We hope it continues to be like that and we do not have any problems and they all have successful completion dates."

Minister of Labour, Dale Bisnauth: "My wish is that we have a very peaceful Christmas, that crime will come down to an all-time low and that the Guyanese people will have as great a time as they certainly deserve. As far as the Ministry is concerned, I think that 2003 has been a fruitful year for us. I expect that 2004 will be a better year. I expect that in the whole area of Labour relations, we would have a better year than 2003. I hope that next year, we will have fewer strikes and that negotiations for wages will begin early in next year so that we would not have the complaints that we have had this year. I want to see a better response to the plight of poor people, generally. I am confident that next year will be a better year for the Ministry."

Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Bibi Shadick: "I would like to see Guyanese put 'Christ' back in Christmas and stop all this commercialisation. People should go to church and we should pray for peace and unity and harmony; And for the New Year, I would like to see a little more industry among our people. Women who have their families to look after, I would like to see them better be able to earn some kind of income. It does not necessarily mean to be from a Government's job and we are here to help them to do that so that they can get their lives in order and we can have a united and peaceful nation."

Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Reepu Daman Persaud: "I would like to see people working assiduously to bring about cohesion, oneness, togetherness. Togetherness has it's own dynamic. If we can think together, speak together, walk together, talk together, we will be able to do a fantastic job for this great country of ours. We would like to more particularly see children happy, senior people happy and that there is an understanding permeating every nook and cranny of this great land of Guyana."

Minister of Education, Henry Jeffrey: "Now that we are in the festive season, the Christmas season, our Ministry, of course, wishes to send the best to everyone, to our teachers, to the pupils. I hope that they will work harder next year and that we again have even greater success, but most of all I think we would like to send our greetings to the hard-working parents who have done so much for their children.
