The trial of former Miss Guyana, Mia Rahaman, who was allegedly held with 7.5 kilos of cocaine at a Canadian airport, was yesterday adjourned until October 31.

Rahaman’s lawyer Dhaman P. Kissoon has still not received the full disclosure of evidence against his client and is still planning his defence strategy.

Rahaman was charged for the importation of a controlled substance after she was held on May 21 at the Pearson International Airport. Canadian customs authorities said 7.5 kilos of cocaine with a street value of Cdn$1M was found in Rahaman’s luggage. The cocaine was discovered in the false bottom and sides of her suitcase. Smaller amounts of the drug were also said to be found in three jars of various cosmetics during a secondary inspection by customs.

Rahaman, the 2002 Miss Guyana Universe, pleaded not guilty to the federal charge.
