Up to late yesterday afternoon Stanleytown fugitive, Neil Bovell, who is wanted in connection with two murders, and one kidnapping, arson and rape, was still on the run.
Meanwhile, 64-year-old Vernon Bernard, who was murdered and his body burnt beyond recognition last Saturday morning at Stanley-town, was laid to rest on Thursday in the Le Repentir Cemetery.
The wanted man who has been on the loose in the Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara area, terrorising residents, is wanted in connection with Bernard’s murder. Last Saturday morning Bernard was murdered, his home torched and his 22-year-old daughter, Velda Bernard kidnapped. The young woman escaped on Monday morning.
Residents of the area have been complaining that the police are not doing enough to capture the man, who from all indications is not armed with a gun but a cutlass and knife. Bernard had related that some residents were feeding him since during her ordeal she saw him eating food.
On Thursday Public Relations Officer for the force, David Ramnarine said that the police understood the concern of the residents. However, he said it was not fair for the residents to say that the force was not doing enough. He pointed out that quite often the work of the police was not in the public domain so people would not have a step-by-step account of what the force was doing. According to Ramnarine, investigations have intensified and additional manpower, equipment and other resources have been introduced to boost the police’s efforts to arrest the wanted man.
The force urges members of the public who see the fugitive to inform the police and says that all information would be kept confidential.
