Commissioner-General of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) Khursid Sattaur said on Tuesday that his agency was working to establish a better rapport with the business community for the successful implementation of the Fiscal Enactments Act.
Sattaur met with members of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) on Tuesday in an effort to discuss the taxation issues confronting business.
In a GCCI press release, Sattaur is reported as saying he was aware that the business community needed to better understand the legislation and that he would be following up the matter with the Chamber at subsequent meetings.
Sattaur alluded to the advent of the Value-Added Tax (VAT) regime which, along with other measures, would require that the GRA be restructured.
The meeting took place at the Chamber’s Secretariat on W`aterloo Street, Georgetown.
President of the GCCI, Eddie Boyer said that the meeting was significant for the chamber’s membership and made reference to the Fiscal Enactments Act and the Customs and Trade Admin-istration (CTA) processes.
According to the release, Sattaur said he welcomed the opportunity to engage with the Chamber’s membership on issues of concern to them. He informed them of the GRA’s desire to play a more meaningful role in assisting business. He requested the help of the business community in improving the administration of procedures and regulations directly affecting that sector.
