The preliminary inquiry into the death of Yohance Douglas resumed before Acting Chief Magistrate Juliet Holder-Allen yesterday.

Prosecution witness Lance Corporal John Cummings was crossed-examined by defence counsel Bernard De Santos.

Police Inspector Deonarine then took the stand and gave his evidence in chief. He was later crossed-examined by De Santos and Richardson.

Deonarine, one of the investigating ranks in the case, is stationed at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Head-quarters and attached to the Homicide Squad.

The prosecution yesterday tendered the defendants' statements in court. The statements were then admitted as evidence.

The hearing is set to continue on November 18.

Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Jo Ann Barlow is appearing in the capacity of prosecutor, while De Santos and Richardson represent the defendants, Mahendra Baijnauth and Gerald Alonzo respectively.

Police officers, Baijnauth and Alonzo were jointly charged on March 28 with the unlawful murder of Douglas, a student of the University of Guyana.
