Chatraj Boodlall, the man who was jointly charged with an American woman for allegedly attempting to smuggle a quantity of cocaine out of the country in food items re-appeared in court and was further remanded to prison yesterday.
Boodlall, of 61-62 Jacaranda Avenue, Bel Air Park, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Juliet Holder-Allen and was remanded to prison until today.
The accused and American national, Karen Sue Chobot had appeared before Principal Magistrate Cecil Sullivan on Monday on a joint charge of trafficking in the narcotics. Chobot was sentenced to three years imprisonment after pleading guilty while he was remanded to prison after denying the charge.
Boodlall is accused of attempting to smuggle 2.75 kilogrammes of cocaine in pholouri, egg balls and sugar cakes last Thursday.
Chobot was detained at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport after the cocaine was discovered in food items in her suitcase.
Police reportedly picked up Boodlall at his Bel Air home after Chobot's detention. It is alleged that he placed the cocaine in the food items and gave them to the woman to take overseas.
