The Guyana Police Force will increase its presence in and around shopping areas countrywide starting today and continuing for the next two months.
A press release from the Police Public Relations Department stated that police booths will be set up with telephones in some areas such as Georgetown, and persons could report a crime to the ranks in uniform or request other assistance.
The force is advising commuters to be on the alert for opportunity criminals. Shopkeepers and itinerant peddlers were also warned about exposing firecrackers, squibs and other explosive devices for sale.
With an increase in the number of pedestrians on the roads and around shopping centres, drivers are cautioned to desist from speeding and to exercise due care and attention.
