The PPP is calling on the Speaker of the National Assembly to launch an investigation into how an altered version of an agreed report appeared before Parliament on Monday.
General Secretary of the PPP, Donald Ramotar, made the announcement during a party press conference held at Freedom House yesterday.
During an adjournment of the National Assembly on Monday, an amendment to the fourth report of the Appointive Committee was circulated to members of parliament. In explaining the reason for the amendment, Chairperson of the committee, Gail Teixeira, said that the report contained inaccuracies and she believed that it had been tampered with.
But the Speaker, Ralph Ramkarran, defended the staff of the Parliament, saying that they were not responsible for changes to the report.
The report is from the Appointive Committee for the Rights Commissions and according to the PPP/C, it was unanimously agreed to prior to the submission to the National Assembly.
But members of the PNCR said during Monday's sitting that the vote had been deadlocked at four on each side, with the committee's chairperson casting the last vote and therefore there was no unanimous agreement.
The purpose of the report was to submit the names of the two persons to be placed on the Public Service Commission.
The two persons selected for the commission were Leslie Melville and Dr Kissoon.
