Team Braithwaite, which comprises World Boxing Council's world cruiserweight champion Wayne Braithwaite, coach Colin Morgan and Morgan's assistant Maurice Boyce, is confident of a successful title defence come December 13.
Cruiserweight champion Braithwaite (190) of Guyana is scheduled to defend his title against Panamanian Luis Pineda (173) on December 13 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. His defence forms part of a Don King promotions blockbuster card, which showcases six world title fights including mouthwatering clashes between Bernard Hopkins and William Joppy and windmill fighter/brawler Nicaraguan Ricardo Mayorga and Cory Spinks in unification title bouts.
On Wednesday afternoon Braithwaite decked out in trunks with the colours of the Golden Arrowhead sparred some six furious rounds with 1996 Olympian John Douglas at the Crunch Gym in Manhattan.
After the sessions Braithwaite spoke with Stabroek Sport's Editor Donald Duff and predicted a victory come December 13.
Stopping short of predicting a knockout Braithwaite said:" All I know is that I'm going to win.
If the knockout comes I will take it but I am preparing for 12 rounds and I'm prepared for everything he has to offer."
But Boyce was not so diplomatic. The wily veteran trainer declared: "Busy Boyce says it will be an early night."
Morgan who guided Braithwaite to his world title win over Italian Vincente Cantatore echoed the sentiments of Boyce.
"I think it will be an easy fight. Trinidadian Lennox Lewis stopped this guy."
Both Morgan and Braithwaite said the training was going pretty much the way they wanted.
Other bouts of interest on the December 13 card are Zab Judah (291) against Jaime Rangel (2941) for the WBO junior welterweight title belt and former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman (2531) against another former heavyweight champion John Ruiz (3851).
A press conference will be held on Monday at the same venue.
