BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, (CMC) - The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) is awaiting reports from the weekend’s first round Carib Beer Series match at Kensington Oval where Barbados were penalised for ball-tampering.

On Sunday, umpires Billy Doctrove and Vincent Bullen ruled that he ball had been tampered with and awarded batting team Guyana five penalty points, in accordance with the rules.

Derrick Nicholas, the WICB’s Chief Operations Officer (Regional), told CMC Sport he could not comment on the matter since the regional governing body for the sport is yet to receive reports - match referee, umpires, or captains - on the incident.

“We have not received all the details surrounding the incident, so we are not in a position to make a decision or announcement on it,” Nicholas said.

Match referee Hartley Reid said the umpires discovered that there was a change in the surface of the ball “inconsistent with normal wear and tear” and replaced it.

The Barbadians said they were innocent but they have become the first team in regional first-class cricket to be penalised for ball-tampering.
