PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, (CMC) - Spinner Amit Jaggernauth recorded his first five-wicket haul in regional cricket as Trinidad and Tobago set themselves up for full points against West Indies-B in their second round fixture of the Carib Beer Series at the National Cricket Centre yesterday.

At the end of the third day’s play, the regional youngsters -- in arrears by 121 runs on first innings -- closed on 186 for seven, an overall lead of 65 with only three wickets remaining.

Jaggernauth gave another impressive bowling performance to end with figures of five for 52 from 22 overs, to follow up his four for 76 in the first innings.

He has 12 wickets after two matches in his first full season with the local team in the regional four-day championship.

Jaggernauth’s performance was matched by team-mate and former West Indies ‘A’ batsman Dwayne Bravo who notched a magnificent 197 to gain the ascendancy for the home team.

The gifted Bravo missed out by three runs to follow Aneil Kanhai (223), Lincoln Roberts (220), Sheldon Gomes (213), Brian Lara (206) and Phil Simmons (202) as the others to have scored double hundreds for T&T since the inception of the four-day tournament in 1966.

Jaggernauth grabbed three wickets in the post-lunch period and returned in the final session to claim two more important victims after Assad Fudadin (55) and Gregory Mahabir (38) threatened to take the match away from the locals with a fifth-wicket partnership of 82 in 133 minutes.

Earlier, T&T resumed on 263 for five, with Bravo on 168 and Gibran Mohammed 34.

The duo pushed the score to 297 before Mohammed (42) was caught low down at gully off pacer Dwight Washington’s bowling.

Mohammed and Bravo added 160 in 218 minutes for the sixth wicket.

Reyad Emrit joined Bravo and the home side continued to score freely against the Windies-B’s bowling attack.

However, with the score on 320, Bravo, looking set to achieve another landmark, played on to Washington.

He batted for 408 minutes, faced 311 balls and lashed 16 fours and five sixes.

Bravo received a standing ovation from the appreciative crowd at the Central venue.

Towards the end of the innings, Emrit hit a whirlwind 44 from 41 balls that included eight fours, before he was last out by the run-out route, ending the T&T innings at 359 as they responded to the Windies-B team's first innings effort of 238.

Windies-B started their second innings with Jason Haynes (34) and Ryan Ramdass (32) playing comfortably against the T&T bowlers.

They pushed the score from the lunchtime position of 17 for no loss to 67 before they were separated.

Haynes was trapped in front to Jaggernauth, and one run later Ramdass was caught at long-leg by Davindra Krishna off the same bowler.

The visitors slipped to 72 for three when Danza Hyatt (4) holed out to Shazam Babwah at mid-on off Jaggernauth’s bowling.

Fours run later Lendl Simmons (5) was snapped up by Mohammed from Emrit’s bowling.

Fudadin and Mahabir thwarted the efforts until Jaggernauth broke the partnership after tea when he had the latter caught at slip by skipper Imran Jan.

The Windies-B innings got in further shambles with the dismissal of Fudadin caught at mid-on by Emrit off Krishna’s bowling. The score was then 173 for six.

Fudadin batted for 179 minutes and 124 balls and struck seven fours and one six.

Jaggernauth struck again when he had West Indies-B skipper Dinesh Ramdin (8) caught at mid-wicket by Emrit.

Anderson Sealy (0 not out) joined Kenroy Williams (seven not out) and faced one ball before bad light halted play with ten overs remaining.

The final day’s play starts at 9.30 am.
