SCARBOROUGH, Tobago, (CMC) - Trinidad and Tobago, led by a superb spell of swing bowling from Dwayne Bravo, were nicely poised to take first innings lead against Kenya on the second day in their third round match of the Carib Beer 2004 Cricket Series at Shaw Park, on Saturday.

At stumps, Kenya were struggling on 147 for eight wickets, in reply to Trinidad and Tobago’s modest first innings total of 257, 110 runs behind with two wickets remaining.

Maurice Ouma is unbeaten on 31 and Martin Suji not out 18. They have so far added 52 runs for the ninth wicket.

Bravo, in an excellent spell of seam bowling, captured four wickets off 19 deliveries without conceding a run, to break the back of the Kenyan batting.

The Africans slipped from 91 for three to 95 for eight, until Ouma and Suji launched a rearguard fightback, which saw them bat through the period after tea.

Bravo ended with the impressive figures of four wickets for 18 runs from 15 overs, seven of which were maidens. He was well supported by Amit Jaggernauth who picked up two for 38 with his probing off-spinners.

Earlier the Kenyans went to lunch on 51 for one, with Kennedy Obuya not out on 34.

This was after Ravindu Shah was caught by Gibran Mohammed off Jaggernauth’s bowling for 19 at the stroke of the interval.

On resumption the Kenyans slipped into trouble in the space of four runs, when they lost Obuya run-out for 39, and skipper Steve Tikolo bowled by Jaggernauth for four, to leave them in a spot of bother on 75 for three.

Maurice Odumbe and Brijal Patel pushed the score along to 91 before the drama unfolded.

Patel was lbw to Bravo for 19. It was 95 for five when Modi was run-out for two, after which three wickets fell to Bravo without any addition to the score.

Odumbe was caught by Mohammed for 11 while Collins Obuya and Francis Otieno were clean-bowled. Suji averted the hat-trick and together with Ouma batted bravely against the Trinidad and Tobago eight-man bowling attack.

Earlier T&T had resumed on 221 for nine and added a further 36 runs before Davindra Krishna was bowled by Ongondo for 19, giving the right-hand fast bowler his fifth wicket of the innings. He ended with figures of five for 60 and Odumbe 3-63. Marlon Black was left not out on 21.
