SCARBOROUGH, Tobago, (CMC) - Trinidad and Tobago needed only 14 balls to take first innings points against Kenya on a rain-ruined third day of their round three 2004 Carib Beer Cricket Series match at the Shaw Park Sporting Complex yesterday
Showers intervened 15 minutes before lunch and prevented any play for the remainder of the day, with Trinidad and Tobago on a second innings 34 for three -- an overall lead of 141.
Skipper Imran Jan was 12 not out and Shazam Babwah yet to face a ball, When the players scampered off for rain.
Kenya's pacer Martin Suji has so far taken three wickets for 15 runs.
Umpires Harry Rajkumar and Clive Duncan had several inspections during The course of the interruption and eventually called off play for the day at 4.45 p.m. local time.
Play is slated to start at 9.30 a.m. today to make up for lost time.
In the time allowed during the morning, the Kenyans resumed on 147 for eight -- in response to T&T’s 257 all out -- and lost their remaining two wickets for the addition of a mere three runs.
T&T's 28-year-old fast bowler Marlon Black claimed his 100th wicket in First-Class regional four-day cricket with the first ball of the day.
Eyeing a return to the West Indies team, Black uprooted the stumps of overnight batsman Suji for 18, and ended the innings when he had the other overnight batsman Maurice Ouma caught by wicketkeeper Gibran Mohammed for33.
All-rounder Dwayne Bravo, with figures of four for 20 off 26 overs with seven maidens, was the homesters’ leading wicket-taker.
Black (2-55) and spinner Amit Jaggernauth (2-38) were the other wicket-takers.
T&T opened their second innings with skipper Jan and debutant Earnil Ryan and were soon in trouble when Ryan (6) guided a delivery from Suji into the safe hands off Maurice Odumbe at third slip.
The left-handed Aneil Kanhai (12) joined his captain and took a six and four from Suji's bowling.
But the Kenyan had the last laugh, when he had Kanhai trapped leg before wicket.
Bravo, one of T&T's two batting heroes in the first innings, did not last long.
The talented right-handed batsman gave Suji his third wicket when offering Kennedy Obuya an easy catch at mid-on.
Bravo made three and the score was 34 for three when a persistent Drizzle drove the players off the field.
Black said that he was happy about his achievement and promised to continue working hard with the hope of getting back on the regional team.
"I was a bit unlucky in the two opening matches with several chances going abegging. I will continue to work at levels of my game, and with some luck, more positive results will be achieved," Black stated.
Meanwhile, Theophilus Trim, Director of Sports in the Tobago House of Assembly, said that hosting a regional match in Tobago is a positive move by the authorities.
The affable Trim said that the Tobagonians will only learn and improve from the experience.
“And who knows, we can even host a World Cup match in 2007,” he said.
