PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, (CMC) - The West Indies Players Association (WIPA) is probing a fight that took place between members of Guyana’s Carib Beer Series squad while they contested their third round match against the Windward Islands in Dominica late last month.

WIPA says it has requested that Guyana captain and regional WIPA representative Neil McGarrell investigate and provide a report on the “alleged incident involving two senior Guyanese cricketers”.

At the end of the first day of the match, which Guyana lost by 131 runs, former West Indies leg-spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo and off-spinning all-rounder Lennox Cush, man-of-the-match when Guyana beat Barbados in the Red Stripe Bowl final last October, were involved in an altercation that developed into a fight.

In a press release, WIPA said while it is concerned about discipline among its members and is working on a Code of Ethics and Discipline binding on all its members, the Association also “wishes to ensure that its members are treated fairly and are not discriminated against in any way”.

WIPA says it has made a point of ensuring that its members act responsibly and respectfully, and is committed to increasing the level of professionalism of its members.

Following receipt of the report from its representative, the WIPA executive says it will review the situation objectively and take whatever action it deems necessary in the circumstances.
