BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, (CMC) - Runaway leaders Barbados have named four of their returning seven members of the West Indies One-day squad for their next match against Leeward Islands in the Carib Beer 2004 Cricket Series at the Addelita Cancryn Ground in St Thomas.
The big news, however, is that fast bowler Tino Best, the season’s leading wicket-taker, will not make the trip to Charlotte Amalie because of a foot injury that he sustained during the fifth round match against Kenya that Barbados won by six wickets yesterday.
In making the announcement, Richard ‘Prof’ Edwards, chairman of the Barbados selection panel, said that Best had been sent for a precautionary medical exam earlier on the last day of the Kenya match and the selectors decided not to risk him ahead of more important matches in the coming weeks.
“He has had a heavy workload this season and this will be a nice time for him to rest,” Edwards, the former Barbados and West Indies fast bowler said.
From the 11 picked for the match against Kenya, only Shawn Graham has lost his place as well as the two reserves - all-rounder Callitos Lopez and Mwanghi Broomes.
Coming into the squad of 13 that departs early this morning are batsmen Kurt Wilkinson and Dwayne Smith, as well as all-rounders Ryan Hurley and Ian Bradshaw.
Edwards said that fast bowlers Fidel Edwards, Corey Collymore and Vasbert Drakes are nursing injuries and have been given time off to heal.
Squad:
Courtney Browne (captain), Sulieman Benn, Ian Bradshaw, Sherwin Campbell, Pedro Collins, Ryan Hinds, Ryan Hurley, Martin Nurse, Antonio Mayers, Ryan Nurse, Floyd Reifer, Dwayne Smith, Kurt Wilkinson.
