FOUR couples came in their yachts to the Essequibo last week, and vowed that they will return to savour more of the eco-tourism magic of the area and the warmth and hospitality of the Guyanese people with whom they came into contact.

Minister of Trade, Industry and Tourism Manzoor Nadir was present at the Baganara Resort on Saturday to extend a warm welcome to Judy and Bill, Peter and Pat, Jack and Jo-Anne, and David and Joyce. Accompanying the Minister was Regional Chairman Gordon Bradford.

The visitors came in from Trinidad and Tobago on board their yachts Janus, Mystic Adventure, Wind Rose and Mood Indigo.

Jack and Jo-Anne are particularly thrilled at yachting on rivers.

“At sea, all one sees is the sea,” says Jack. “But on rivers there is the constantly changing landscape and the villages and the towns and people. We’d love to come back to travel up your Essequibo.”

As for Judy and Bill, they told of coming across the Pacific and then the Atlantic Oceans, and at all the stops along the way they told people they were coming to Guyana.

“And when we get back we will tell everyone what a wonderful place this is,” Bill promised.

The yachtsmen and their wives are expected to remain in the Essequibo for about two weeks, during which time they will explore the eco-tourism programmes Guyana offers.
