PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, (CMC) - Ricky Skerritt has resigned as West Indies team manager, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) announced yesterday morning.

Skerritt said he made his decision to resign following the first Cable & Wireless Test in Jamaica and informed the WICB CEO, Roger Brathwaite, of his decision on Saturday, March 20, and followed up with his official letter of resignation to WICB president Teddy Griffith on Sunday, March 21.

In accordance with the terms of his contract, Skerritt’s resignation will take effect from the end of June 2004.

In his letter to the WICB president, Skerritt said, “events following the first Test match in Jamaica have led me to review my role as team manager. I regret that, despite my best efforts, I have been unable to instil in the entire team the fullest understanding of their obligations on and off the field to the people of the West Indies.”

Skerritt emphasised his continued commitment to West Indies cricket and his willingness to support whoever succeeds him to ensure a smooth transition.

The Kittitian has served as West Indies manager since March 2000.
