GUYANA and West Indian batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul was yesterday formally named as the new spokesperson for the Busta and Classic Cola beverages, and will be under contract for one year to spread the words and actions of cricket to young people across the country.
The official cost of this venture is yet to be known by the Managing Director of the Guyana Beverages Incorporated, Robert Selman, since the parent company S.M Jaleel of Trinidad and Tobago took care of the paper work.
The gathering was told given that the West Indies batting star is a very busy person he would work on his own time throughout the year and will be assisted by a number of persons, including a Busta mascot.
At yesterday’s simple ceremony at the Guyana Cricket Board Office, Selman said that working with Chanderpaul was a privilege for his company.
“We are excited about this new partnership and we feel both the person and the products display the qualities of excellence. Chanderpaul’s discipline and determination, combined with our ‘natural effervescence’ shall be a force to be reckoned with, both in the world of cricket and soft drinks manufacturing,” Selman concluded.
Selman said during the coming year, his company is looking forward to Shivnarine Chanderpaul to promote the products with the same enthusiasm he exhibits when thrilling the people of Guyana with his cricket prowess.
The Guyana captain, whose patient and unorthodox but brilliant batting skills have made him a household name wherever cricket is played, said that he was grateful to be given a chance to take part in this venture.
“ I am looking forward to working with S.M Jaleel in the next year and sharing my passion and excitement for cricket with the young people of Guyana, as the spokesman for Busta and Classic Cola. I am positive that I can play a part in instilling such positive values and qualities in our young aspiring cricket fans,” Chanderpaul said.
Cricket Development Officer in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Clyde Butts was also full of praise for the newfound partnership given that he felt that Chanderpaul is an excellent candidate for the position.
“We have been complaining about young people on the streets, well here is a chance to do something about it. I know that if Chanderpaul made his presence felt with the children in Guyana it would bring about some change.”
This partnership even though just for one year would continue if Chanderpaul agrees.
Chanderpaul will not only speak about cricket and his cricketing life to the young enthusiasts but he will also teach the practical aspect of the game.
This Busta, Classic Cola campaign will see the West Indies Testite appearing on billboards, commercials and even copy books.
