A programme intended to promote Mashramani hit the local and foreign airwaves yesterday.
Pana Caribbea will be aired on four local television stations and will run until February 23.
The half-hour slot will be aired on GTV 11, NTN 18, MTV 14 and STVS 4 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with replays on Sundays. Spotlight TV in New York is also set to air Pana Caribbea.
The programme is a Guyenterprise Advertising Agency initiative and material for it has been collected by Kurt Clarke.
Len Corsbie, Director of Pana Caribbea disclosed at a press briefing on Monday that the show would follow events leading up to Mashramani from the launching of the first Mash Camp to the Float Parade. The programme will feature highlights of other events and carnivals in the region.
He explained that Pana Caribbea also takes a look back at the early days of Mashramani including the first celebrations in Linden and will feature discussions with persons who were involved with the event during the developmental stages.
Corsbie said that Mashramani has come back in a big way after some years of dull celebrations and this was in part because of government and private sector support.
He said the cost to produce the show was over $1M and he was appreciative that local television stations had agreed to air the programmes free of cost. Corsbie said that the cost for overseas footage to be aired on Pana Caribbea was now being negotiated.
