In the aftermath of his bombshell allegations about a death squad, questions are now being raised about whether George Bacchus will provide a detailed statement to law enforcement and government officials for an investigation to be conducted.
Over the last three days, Stabroek News has sought to confirm with Bacchus whether he will be providing such a statement. Bacchus has either been unavailable or has declined comment.
Government spokesmen have said that once a detailed statement is made by Bacchus on his claims of the operation of a death squad, an investigation will be mounted. Bacchus' claims followed the murder of his brother, Shafeek Bacchus, earlier this month. Three men have since been charged. Bacchus has also made several visits to the US embassy to tell his story to officials there.
