Timehri Airport staffer testifies in drug bust case

A staff member of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, has begun giving evidence in the case where two men were charged with trafficking in 30 kgs of cocaine at the airport late last year.

Faizul Ahmad of Lot 129 Back Street, Grove, East Bank Demerara and taxi driver Cecil King of Lot 12 Da Silva Street, Kitty were charged with being in possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking after bags containing the drugs were found in the VIP lounge on November 27.

Yesterday, Customer Service worker Sajid Rayman, 28, testified. He was questioned by the prosecution and is due for further cross-examination on Monday. Other witnesses are expected to be called when the trial continues tomorrow.

King was granted $150,000 bail earlier this month while Ahmad remains on remand.

King, an ex-policeman, was granted bail on January 7 after Corporal McCoy had finished his testimony and the prosecution confirmed that it contained all the evidence against King who was the driver of the car that took the duo to the airport.

Up until this month King had been remanded since his arrest last year.
