The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) has launched its website which aims at providing information on Guyana, including maps, accommodation, calendar of events, travel trips and places.

An interactive photo gallery, depicting a wide variety of tourist attractions in the cultural, natural and heritage sites, is located on the site, which had been designed and will be maintained by Michael Leonard of Xcess Interactive.

The site, launched on Thursday, has links to the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Go-Invest, the Ministry of Culture, the Office of the President and other private and public sector entities.

According to a release from the Government Information Agency (GINA), Minister of Tourism, Manzoor Nadir, remarked that tourists today need accurate, unbiased information on travel for which they would turn to the internet. He added that a website should be attractive, informed and marketable resulting in Guyana being put in the forefront of Tourism Development.

The release stated that the authority plans to have the site updated monthly at a cost of $3,000 for each update. The total cost for the creation of the site was around $120,000. The website address is www.guyana-tourism.com

The GTA has also launched its official banner which portrays a bird about to fly.
