Twenty-eight-year-old junior lightweight boxer Gairy "Superman" St. Claire showed all of his speed and silky skills with a unanimous six-round points win on a Talentworks/Blaster Promotions boxing card on Friday night at the Panthers World of Entertainment in Western Sydney, Australia.
One of the highlights of the night was the improved display of power put on by St.Claire whose record improves to 30 wins, three losses, two draws and 13 wins by knockout.
Whilst retaining his usual classy moves, the Guyanese gave his opponent Johannes Sheferaw a real battering in winning on points over six rounds with judges scores of 60-57, 58-56 and 59-55. After St.Claire had taken a round off in the fifth, the genuine world title contender, whose only losses were to world champions Leo Dorin, Vivian Harris and Diego Corrales, came out with some dazzling combinations as he looked for a stoppage in the final round.
"I can't wait to get back in the ring again," said St.Claire. "Jeff Fenech and Billy Hussein have been working with me on my power. I'm getting better every day. 'Superman' never stops. There is always room for improvement. Anybody is next. Give me anybody, I'm always ready to fight."
St.Claire who was born in Georgetown, Guyana, but who now lives and trains in Australia said, "I want to win a world title for Australia and Guyana. Honestly speaking, I will fight anybody at 130lbs, anybody at 135lbs and anybody at 126lbs. I can make the weight in all three divisions."
