The preliminary inquiry into the death of University of Guyana student Yohance Douglas moved towards a conclusion yesterday when the prosecution closed its case.

State Prosecutor Jo-Ann Barlow said she had finished proceedings when the re-examination of witness O'Neil King was completed.

Defence Counsel Compton Richardson will now continue his submission on February 17 following a statement to the court yesterday.

The inquiry has been focusing on the two policemen, Gerald Alonzo and Mahendra Baijnauth, who are alleged to have unlawfully killed Douglas in Sheriff Street on March 1, last year. Baijnauth has also been charged with attempted murder.

King who was one of the passengers of the car in which Douglas was killed was questioned by Senior Counsel Bernard De Santos before the prosecution announced its closure.
