Marian Academy took first in the secondary schools category of the annual Mash costume competition with their creation "Jewels of the Nile".

Children yesterday flocked to the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall from several nursery, primary and secondary schools and were given a choice of costume telling something about Guyana. Several picked up the theme of the many beauty pageants much to the hilarity of the young audience.

Taking the second place position was J.E Burnham with "Mash Flavour" worn by Brandi Archer. Aaliyah Brown from the Head Start Nursery flounced her way to the third place position with her costume "Splendours of Guyana".

The Turkeyen Nur-sery school sent the audience in an uproar as they tramped to Compton Hodge's song "Balloon City" bouncing and waving with a costume fully decorated with balloons. The "Precious Sea Goddess" worn by Aaliyah Providence took second prize for Precious Jewels while Kingston Nursery School took third for "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" performed by John Hunch.

In the Topical category, the Green Acres Primary School took first with "A Wish For Unity For Development".
