Schoolchildren compete with verve at Mash show in Region Two

As the Children's Mash competition got underway in Region Two on Wednesday at the Charity Secondary School, a number of budding exponents of the calypso art form as well as performers of dramatic poetry displayed their verve and unconventional creativity.

They competed under the categories Nursery, Primary and Secondary, and trophies were presented to the winning schools.

In the Calypso Competition, Cotton Field Nursery was judged the winner, CV Nunes Primary won in the five to seven age group, and Suddie Primary placed first in the eight to ten age group.

In the eleven to thirteen age group, Queenstown Primary was the winner while Anna Regina Multilateral won the crown in the fourteen to seventeen category.

In the Dramatic Poetry Competition, Reliance Nursery copped first while Riverstown Primary topped in the five to seven group.

C.V Nunes Primary scored first again in the eight to ten group, and Huist T' Dieren Primary copped first in the eleven to thirteen group. In the fourteen to seventeen group Charity Secondary took the first spot.

And in the Extempore Category Johanna Cecelia Community High reigned supreme.

Among other schools in the competition were Charity Primary, Better Hope Primary, Cotton Field Secondary, Aurora Secondary, Suddie Primary, 8th of May Secondary, Danielstown Nursery, Abram Zuil Secondary, Mainstay Lake Primary, and Tapakuma Lake Primary.

According to co-ordinator of the competition Coreen Osborne, the winners will represent Region Two in the national competition in Georgetown later in the month.

Meanwhile, the Physical Display and Masquerade Competitions were held in the Johanna Cecelia Community High School yesterday while the Dance and Costume Competitions are slated for today at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground.

The Children's Road March is billed for February 27.
