The stage is set for an explosive Children's Mashramani Competition Finals next week as city schools threw down the gauntlet to their country counterparts yesterday.
The curtains came down with a splashy Dance and Masquerade segment with city youths holding little back when they took to the stage of the National Park.
Masquerade, which has always lacked adequate participation, emerged a crowd pleaser when the youngsters delivered several electrifying performances. This year it has attracted its fair share of young competitors.
Daring to go where others city schools fear were David Rose Community High School and J.E Burnham Primary who were the only schools in the masquerade competition with St. Sidwell's Primary.
J.E Burnham stole hearts when they rocked with "Flouncing in Unity". Sporting the traditional masquerade garb and accompanied by a "Mother Sally" and a zealous flouncer with an oversized posterior they created a frenzy.

But despite their performance they were beaten into second by David Rose in the 11-13 year category. David Rose also won the 11-13 individual category.
The much anticipated dance competition lived up to expectations as youths turned out in droves. Going into every category as hot favourites North Georgetown Secondary failed to finish at the top.
The school which had built a reputation at the Children's Competition as dance fanatics finished second in the 11-13 Group Interpretive with "Political Vibes", second in 11-13 Group Legends & Traditions. Lenelle Daniels was the lone winner in the 14-17 Individual while Telesha Telford emerged second in the 14-17 Group Religious Beliefs.
Tucville Secondary crushed the competition in the Religious Beliefs categories with first place finishes in the 11-13 Individual and first in the 11-13 Group.
