Before the year ends, the Mischievous Guys hopes to produce at least two more albums, according to assistant manager and sound engineer Homer Bowen.

The group of five singers and 13 band members had patrons jiving to the rhythms of its latest CD, 'Soca Xplo-sion', which was launched at Le Meridien Pegasus Poolside on Saturday night. Members of the band belted out the songs in the order in which they appear on the CD, which is a compilation of 11 soca songs.

The members of the group, which has been in existence for over 30 years, displayed professional stage showmanship and sang with infectious verve.

Speaking to Stabroek News at the launching, Bowen disclosed that Kross Kolor Studios had produced the CD. He noted that the members of the band did nothing else but sing and were all dedicated to a musical career.

"Guyana is lacking quality soca music," Bowen said, "and as such we need music to move to on Mashramani Day, or even at a party." He strongly advocates that Guyanese start putting all of the international music behind them and jumping and waving to music by local artistes.

The band's new CD has songs by Cyd 'Linkin' Hoop-er, Michelle 'Big Red' King, Junior 'Country Girl' Lewis, Jules 'Mash Party' Hooper and Karen 'Miserable' Hooper. The first two songs on the album, "Linkin", which is done by Cyd Hooper and "Bacchanal Fever Fame" done by King, will up the ante in the Mash Road March competition. Other songs are "Miserable", "Country Girl", "Mash Party" and six others.

Last year the group produced a CD entitled 'GT Soca Playa' with numbers that grabbed airplay on GBC for almost the entire year, including "Doctor Soca", "Leave my Woman" and "Wine Baby".

Since Mischievous Guys went on tour in 1991 to Canada, the group has not been overseas but it plans going on tours again from this year to put local music in the international arena.

And the CD album, which is going at $1,000 each, has been sponsored by Clairans, Courtney Benn, Ansa Mcal, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the Guinness Bar.
