Two immigration officers are headed for Barbados as part of an initiative to address reports of Guyanese travellers being harassed.

The pair will see first hand, the procedures being adopted at the Grantley Adams International Airport.

In a press release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) yesterday it was reported that Deputy Chief Immigration Officer, Senior Superintendent, Krishna Lakeraj and Officer-in-Charge of Immigration, Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Inspector Keith Knights will depart Guyana for Barbados on February 16.

According to the release, the decision to send the two immigration officials stems from talks between the foreign ministries of both countries aimed at rectifying the situation with respect to the alleged harassment of Guyanese on arrival at the island's airport.

Apart from observing procedures at the airport on the morning of February 17, when a flight arrives from Guyana, the two officers are scheduled to meet officials of the island's immigration department later that day.
