The PNCR is calling on all Guyanese to celebrate the Republic anniversary and expresses confidence that the will of the people, the forces of decency, and the rule of law will eventually prevail, despite what it refers to as 'dark times'.
On the occasion of the 34th anniversary, the PNCR says it is saddened that there is little cause for optimism in these dark times that now beset us as a nation," a message from the party stated.
"...We enjoin all Guyanese at home and abroad to have confidence that our ingenuity, patriotism and goodwill can overcome these trying times."
The Republic Anniversary and the Mashramani celebrations are themselves a tribute to that spirit of patriotism, the party noted. The two events coincide with the commemoration of the 1763 slave revolution, "one of the noblest and most courageous historical events in the pursuit of our freedom and dignity." "As we celebrate the anniversary of our Republic, let us spare some time to reflect on the many lessons that can be learnt from that first struggle for freedom in our land," the PNCR urges.
