The car used in last Thursday night's foiled kidnapping of 18-year-old Narissa Persaud was rented from a city car rental and minibus service, says a police source.
The vehicle was rented a few hours before the incident, by a man who gave his name as Ricky Smith of Better Hope, East Coast Demerara.
According to the police source, the vehicle with licence plate number PHH 5428, was traced to Movements Auto Rental and Minibus Service of Amla Avenue, Prashad Nagar.
Officials at the car rental company maintained that they had rented the vehicle to the man once he had produced a driver's licence to match the name and address. They claimed this was standard procedure.
But the police have found that both the licence and the address are false and are continuing their investigations.
Persaud, a student at Critchlow Labour College (CLC) was rescued by policemen after she was abducted from outside the CLC. Her captors, three armed men, escaped following a car chase through a bumpy road in North Ruimveldt.
Persaud is the daughter of Jhaman Persaud, proprietor of Amatuk Trading Company Ltd.
