"I thank God for giving me the strength to bowl fast." These were the first words uttered by Barbadian Tino Best at the post-match press conference after he claimed his first Test wickets.

Best, who went wicketless in his first Test against Australia last year in Barbados and was then discarded might have been thinking a similar fate lay in store after he laboured for 29 overs without that elusive first test wicket.

But then he got the cherished wicket of the experienced England left-hander Graham Thorpe and he celebrated as no other bowler had done or will be likely to do again at Sabina.

"When you have a youngster looking to do well..." was his explanation of his behaviour, whilst admitting that the celebration was not spontaneous but planned.

"I reacted the same way when I got by first, first-class wicket which was the Guyanese opening batsman Azeemul Haniff," he told reporters adding, "I will cool down now."

Best said his success yesterday came from hard work. "I've worked hard all season," he said.

Best said getting help from Wayne Daniel, the former West Indies fast bowler helped a lot. He said he worked with Daniel for two weeks whilst setting goals of reaching 38 wickets in the Carib Beer series and of bowling as fast as he could.

Best said he was not affected by the loss of Edwards who spent most of the day off the field with an injured lower back but said he felt it was a privilege that as the fastest bowler he knew he would be called upon, and knew he had to step up.

Asked about the remainder of the match Best said that anything in the region of 295 would be difficult, adding "I will never, ever forget this day.

And England's Nasser Hussain was high in praise of not only Best and Edwards but the way the match went as well.

"I think it is great for cricket the way the two, Edwards and Best, have bowled and the way we have batted. The last three days have been really good for cricket and the Caribbean fans must love it," Hussain said.

And of Best, Hussain said, "he enjoys his cricket.. Tino Best is certainly an entertainer..."
