Puran heads new 'alternative' party

A political party, the Guyana Patriotic Alliance (GPA), offering a "new political alternative" has entered the political landscape.
A press release from the GPA identifies attorneys Vic Puran and Gloria Stephney as its leader and chairperson respectively. Anthropologist/Consultant, Hubert Wong is the party's deputy leader and attorney Lawrence Harris, vice-chairman.
Other members of the party's executive, who are expected to be introduced at an upcoming media brunch, include executive secretary, Peter Persaud; secretary, A. Gouveia and treasurer, Lorina McKenzie.
According to the release, other GPA committee members include farmer, Woolford Debidin; UG student, Kwesi Walters; businessman Bryan Mackintosh; security guard Abdul Talim Khan; businessman, Shamkumar Haripersaud; chef, Ndru Greaves; farmer Sharon Stanley; student, Anand Sharma and farmer, Deonauth Ramphal.
Overseas representatives include nurse, Veda Paul, student, Dev Sharma and civil engineer, Vijay Puran based in the USA. Representatives have also been announced for the ten regions.
In the United Kingdom, the GPA representative is chartered accountant, Salahudin Kalamadeen, while in Canada the representatives are bank clerk, Khalid Ally and agronomist, Darwin Fung.
The party's representatives in neighbouring Brazil and Venezuela are identified respectively as businesswoman, Thaiani Secquera and university professor, Dr Franz J T Lee.
