IN A statement of its own Monday, the PNC/R expressed grave concern over the "reported" arson attempt at the Home Affairs Ministry and urged the Commissioner of Police "and other responsible agencies to undertake a thorough investigation into this matter."

The PNCR recalled said that since the George Bacchus revelations it had called for an independent and impartial inquiry into the alleged involvement of Home Affairs Minister Ronald Gajraj in the operations of what it claimed was "state-sponsored death squads in Guyana." The party has also demanded the removal of the Minister to enable a transparent investigation into the allegations.

"The PNCR has made no secret of its intention to engage in all forms of legitimate protests to persuade the authorities to hold this inquiry. Our peaceful protest activities include: picketing exercises; protest marches; and public meetings, all of which have been orderly and without incident," the PNC/R statement added.
