WORLD Boxing Association junior welterweight champion ‘Vicious’ Vivian Harris is being considered as a possible opponent for junior welterweight contender Ricky Hatton, later this year.
According to Fightnews, Showtime has agreed to an autumn spectacular involving Hatton in a clash either against Paul Spadafora or Harris.
Hatton is fighting next month in the co-main event on the Glen Johnson-Joe Calzaghe IBF light heavyweight title fight that was originally fixed for June 5 at the M.E.N Arena, but has since been rescheduled and will now take place on Saturday June 12 at the same venue.
The one-week delay in the event has allowed for a suitable challenger to be secured for junior welterweight contender Ricky Hatton, who will fight in the co-main event.
Puerto Rican prospect Miguel Cotto, Harris’ mandatory challenger, has already turned down a fight against him, and he will now face the Brazilian Kelson Pinto - the man who did not show up for his fight with Hatton in April.
Pinto is facing a blackout from Showtime, who is refusing to broadcast his fight because of his antics last time.
Promoter Frank Warren said, "The delay is unfortunate but it has allowed us the time to find a challenger for Hatton who is fit and ready and will meet with the British Boxing Board of Control’s strict regulations.
The main thing is that the show is still on and we are in for a fantastic evening of World championship boxing at the M.E.N Arena. Joe is in a great fight against Johnson which is set to be an explosive encounter and from what I have heard he is looking sensational in training."
