CWC 2007 venue assessment team begins work tomorrow

CASTRIES, St Lucia, (CMC) - The venue assessment team for the ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007 begins their verification tour to countries in the southern Caribbean when they arrive today.
The 13-member team, including Chris Dehring, managing director of the 2007 World Cup and specialists in various areas relating to the hosting of the event, will start their evaluation tomorrow with a multi media presentation on key aspects of St Lucia’s submission.
The team will then hold closed-door sessions with Government officials to discuss the Host Venue Agreement between ICC CWC WI 2007 Inc. and the successful local organising committee in relation to hosting of matches and events in 2007 World Cup.
Special presentations will also be made on the status and plans for the Beausejour Stadium, other infrastructure and services being proposed for the 2007 World Cup.
The team is also expected to tour selected facilities proposed for use while wide-ranging discussions will also be held on other issues, including transportation, security and media facilities.
Following their 24-hour visit, the venue assessment team will leave for their next destination and will tour all seven venues in the southern Caribbean ending with Antigua on May 30.
The venue assessment team will visit St Vincent & the Grenadines on May 24, Grenada on May 25, Trinidad & Tobago on May 26, Guyana on May 27, Barbados on May 28, and Antigua on May 29.
There will be two months of review by the venue assessment team and the announcement of which countries have been selected will be made on July 4 in London, England, while the award of matches will be revealed on July 13 at a glitzy ceremony in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
The ICC CWC WI 2007 Inc. indicated that 11 countries submitted bids to host 2007 World Cup events. They were Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados,
Bermuda, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St Kitts/Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago and the United States.
