On May 28, a 12-member team from the Cricket World Cup and Venue Assessment was in Guyana to assess Guyana’s World Cup Cricket (WCC) 2007 readiness.
Christopher Dehring, Managing Director of Cricket World Cup said that the bid from Guyana was exceptional and contained much local input.
The presentation also provided information on accommodation, adequate agricultural products, Guyana’s tourism potential, cultural potential and religious capabilities.
GINA’s cameras spoke to several persons on the impact tourism would have on their business.
Here is what they had to say:

Kay Mangalani: I am glad if we will be one of the countries to host the 2007 World Cup Cricket. It would bring in a lot of revenue for Guyana and for us businessmen. Well, as we are a garment store, we would definitely have a wider variety of cloth with unique Guyanese flavour.
Dianne Sandack: It would definitely boost our business and with so many tourists expected here, they will definitely shop! We will have everything for them, craft and all.
Doreen Lukekin: We are looking forward to the influx of tourists who will come here, once we are one of the countries to host World Cup 2007. They will beyond doubt contribute significantly to the craft business, which is 100 percent Guyanese. If this could happen often it would be a huge plus!
Lawrence Sealy: Speaking on behalf of my fellow craftsmen, we will
be supported by these tourists. It would be a great fulfilment to the Guyanese people who have businesses.
Debbie Archer: Hosting the World Cup in 2007 will be good for Guyana tourism and economy. As a jeweller, I know that our gold and diamonds from Guyana are of quality and that would boost the jewellery sector a whole lot!
Leslie Hinds: If we win the bid, I will be extremely happy because our economy will be boost tremendously and as a businessman, it would be refreshing to see so many tourists supporting us.
