SLAIN Mocha Queen Kenisha Baird was laid to rest on Monday, a week after she died of heart failure following a fight with at least three other young women in the East Bank Demerara village.

But putting the June 7 incident to rest is far from the minds of family members of the 19-year-old beauty.

Relatives say they will not let the slaying of their loved one go unnoticed; they are determined to see the combatants allegedly responsible for Kenisha’s death placed before the court and charged.

Baird’s aunt yesterday said the family will fight the case to the end. They are in the process of securing eyewitnesses to present in court as advised by their lawyer.

She reiterated the family’s displeasure with the post mortem report. She said they knew Kenisha had a heart ailment but did not think she died from a heart attack, as they were told, because when they inspected Kenisha’s body she had “very distinguished marks of violence and extensive swelling around her neck.”

They contended that she died from strangulation after she was reportedly held by her neck by one of the three girls who were allegedly involved in the street brawl. Kenisha’s

eyes and tongue were protruding, the aunt said.

The relative told the Guyana Chronicle that they were not allowed to witness Kenisha’s post mortem.

“Every time we asked the police (at Providence) what was going on with de case, they acted funny and told us they didn’t know,” she claimed.

She said it was really unfair that the three teenagers who were engaged in the fight with Kenisha on June 7 were placed on station bail of $5,000 each, two days after they were arrested.

Baird family members said all they want is just to make sure that justice is served.

Kenisha Baird, of Lot 547 Housing Scheme Mocha/Arcadia, East Bank Demerara, died on June 7, after she was beaten by three teenage girls in a savage street brawl. A group of residents had reportedly formed a circle around the girls while the fight was taking place.

The post mortem revealed that Kenisha died from cardiac arrest (heart failure).
