GINA -- GUYANA and China will witness enhanced cooperation when the two countries take their cordial relations a step further. This time it is in the information sector.

This follows a meeting Information Liaison to the President Robert Persaud hosted yesterday with Deputy Director and General Manager of Xinhua News Agency, Qingmin Xiao.

The China-based news agency mission in Guyana aims to promote exchanges between Guyana and China, as well as between the two countries’ media.

Following his meeting with Mr. Persaud Mr. Qingmin said they shared information on how this enhanced cooperation may be realized.

According to Mr. Persaud, the meeting dealt specifically with two areas of cooperation, “one between the Government Information Agency (GINA) and Xinhua and secondly how we can have, from the state media perspective, better and much more sustained cooperation. We want to promote much more cooperation through the sharing of information and we are very supportive of this,” he said, adding that the visit also highlights the existing cooperation between the two countries.

Mr. Persaud requested technical assistance and other forms of support from Xinhua News Agency.

While here, Mr. Qingmin will be visiting several electronic and print media houses and discuss Xinhua News Agency’s plans with them.

He arrived in Guyana last evening and will leave on June 22. He is based in New York. The Agency has hundreds of operations across the world, all promoting relations between China and other countries.

Mr. Qingmin said the concept is to foster greater knowledge and understanding of China and avoid misconceptions and misinterpretations of China’s policies.

Also present at the meeting was Third Secretary at the Chinese Embassy in Guyana, Mr. Xing Xhou.
