Karen Meakins, also, retained the Ladies Open crown, outclassing number one seed Ruchika Kumar of Canada in straight games.
When Badrinauth had put away Arthur Poupel in the semifinals, the organisers called it an upset after the Guyanese held on tenaciously as the Frenchman raced ahead, only to be out done after 83 minutes of play, the longest for a match in the history of the tournament.
In staging the comeback and retaining the crown, Badrinauth’s play was referred to as his “typical fighting style.”
Badrinauth starts defending his national title, which he held for the past two years, tomorrow, when the National championships serves off at Georgetown Club.
