A DEPORTEE, who reportedly shot his gambling colleague on Sheriff Street earlier this year, was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Juliet Holder-Allen at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Devon Peton, 23, who is charged with felonious wounding, is alleged to have shot Cletus Rajack in his lower hip at about 04:20 hrs at a Chinese Restaurant on Sheriff Street following an argument on May 30, last.

According to the prosecution, the men knew each other and on the day of the incident Rajack was on his way to visit his wife at the restaurant when Peton reportedly approached him and ask to play a game of ‘Ceilo’.

Rajack reportedly won $6,000. He then allegedly told Peton that he did not want to continue with the game.

Peton reportedly told Rajack that he couldn’t stop playing all of a sudden.

Rajack allegedly ignored him, took out $13,000 from his pocket and added the $6,000, which he had won altogether.

Peton allegedly snatched the money from Rajack, who responded by picking up a beer bottle, which was on the table and struck Peton in his head.

Peton, according to the reports, then pulled out a gun from his waist and fired one shot, which hit Rajack in his hip. He then reportedly escaped with Rajack’s money.

Subsequent to the incident Rajack was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted.

A report was later made to the police.
