'Road Hog' takes Anguilla 80-miler

Local road king, Dwayne `Road Hog' Gibbs returned three hours, 16 minutes and 18 seconds (3:16:18) to win the John T. Memorial 80-mile Cycle Road Race in Anguilla on Sunday.

According to reports out of Anguilla, Gibbs crossed the finish line 12 minutes faster than last year's time for the event, to win from Sere Nepau of Guadeloupe who recorded the same time.

Gibbs' Kaieteur Cycle Club-mate Andrew Reece placed fourth behind Tortola's Christopher Ghiarse, while St Maarten's Michael Phillips and George Carty finished fifth and sixth respectively.

Local riders Marlon Williams, Samuel Baker and Gordon Kennedy placed ninth, 13th and 14th respectively.

Gibbs and the other local riders are expected to travel to Trinidad and Tobago for the West Indies versus the World Cycling Classic which is currently underway in the Twin Island Republic.

Secretary of the Anguilla Amateur Cycling Association, Pat Hodge extended gratitude to the Guyanese for participating in this year's event.
