President Bharrat Jagdeo says the police have put a plan in action to deal with the resurgence of criminal attacks on the East Coast.
Over the past month a number of villages have been besieged by large armed gangs.
Jagdeo told reporters yesterday at the Office of the President that he was very concerned about the situation and had conveyed this to new Commissioner of Police, Winston Felix before he left for a Caricom meeting last week.
"I've seen cases and a report from the police and I've seen the force plan the police put in place to deal with the situation," he said.
Jagdeo also said he met with some of the victims and described the crimes committed on them as atrocious. In one attack at Lusignan three weeks ago two families were robbed, brutalised and humiliated in an incident that lasted for over two hours.
