The Miss Guyana World organisation says it will not be hosting a pageant this year, but the committee will conduct a "thorough screening process" to select a representative to compete in October for the Miss World title in China.
According to a press release from the organisation, the staging of the local pageant has been affected because the Miss World contest which is usually held in December has now been brought forward to October. In the past the local pageant was held in September, allowing the organisation adequate time to fully prepare its representative. The decision not to hold a pageant this year was also prompted by the large number of pageants in Guyana and the decreasing support from business entities, the release stated.
Persons wishing to be considered for screening must meet the following requirements:
* be between ages 17-25
* never married
* never given birth to a child
* permanent resident of Guyana for the past five years
* never been convicted of a crime or involved in any illegal activity
Persons interested in being selected as the country's representative and who meet the stated requirements should uplift and fill out an application form from the Miss Guyana World Office at Barima Avenue, Bel Air Park.
The selection committee will be considering physical looks, intelligence, communication skills and specific personality traits. Applicants will be screened and interviewed by the committee which will be solely responsible for the selection of the representative, the release added. Updates on the organisation's activities this year are available on its website www.miss-guyana.org.
