Charter flights to Berbice

Some passengers arriving at Timehri prefer to fly to Berbice rather than using motor vehicles, given the delays and potential dangers associated with criminal activity along the East Coast corridor. The flight takes around 30 minutes thus cutting out at a minimum a trip of 3 hours with the ferry and road works.
However, it is not cheap since there is no scheduled flight service, so passengers have to charter an entire plane.
Fazeel Khan, general manager of Air Services Limited says chartered flights to Berbice increased during the crime wave of early last year and in 2002 on the East Coast.
Air Services Limited does not have scheduled flights to the region and only flies to the area if it receives charters. Khan expects that during the summer the demand for chartered flights may increase as more persons come home. He says for the moment a few overseas-based Guyanese and some foreigners are chartering flights. Persons travelling to Canje, Berbice can charter a 9-seater aircraft from Air Services Limited for $70,000 per hour and a 6-seater for $50,000. The 9-seat aircraft can take from 1525 to a maximum of 1600 pounds including passengers and baggage. Trans Guyana Airways also offers chartered flights to Berbice. Persons going to Rosehall, Canje can charter a 9-seater for $104,000.
