Movie star Kumar Gaurav, now filming "Guiana 1838" in Berbice, nearly got himself into a pickle while performing a stunt.
According to reports from the location in the Corentye back lands, Director Rohit Jagessar was shooting a scene which required that Gaurav climb out of a punt filled with sugar cane and leap onto a bridge.
A press release from the production team stated that the scene started smoothly around 2 pm. Jagessar worked on the scene in detail with the actor but as the oncoming punt was nearing, Jagessar tracked onto the bridge and suddenly saw a different angle for the scene and he instructed Kumar to change the move.
The punt by then was only a few yards from the bridge and the ox, which was pulling the punt started to go faster. As Kumar got up from the heaps of sugarcane and began to make his way onto the bridge the director noticed that the heaps of sugarcane on the punt behind Kumar were piled way too high.
According to Jagessar, any delay in Kumar getting onto the bridge would have sent the other punts ramming into him.
Locals grabbed Kumar and lifted him in mid-air to safety as the other punts made their way under the bridge.
Meanwhile a heavy shower the previous day saw crewmembers running for cover. But Jagessar called them back on set for this shot to be done during the rains.
The director had thought about a rain sequence in his play but he was not sure when and where it would be inserted into the movie.
The team is expected to fly to New York for a short break after the Guyana shoot is completed on May 5.
"Guiana 1838" is about the abolition of slavery and the arrival of Indians in Guyana during the 19th Century.
